Alcohol, You and trouble?

Drink Driving

Found yourself in a police cell charged with drink driving? You may feel it’s a one off but unfortunately lots of people do re-offend. You may simply need alcohol information and education to ensure that you don’t get caught for drink driving in the future. For example, do you know how long to wait before driving after a night out enjoying alcohol? Did you know that you’re at much greater risk of having an accident even if you’re just under the legal drink drive limit?

Being caught for drink driving doesn’t necessarily mean you have a drink problem but if you don’t understand the facts about alcohol you may be at risk of re-offending. By attending some sessions on alcohol education you will be able to make informed decisions in the future.

Alternatively you may need some counselling and support to look at your use of alcohol and how it’s impacting on your life. Regular weekly sessions with a trained worker can help you to make changes in the way you use alcohol. Contact us.

Violent Behaviour

Lots of people find themselves in trouble because of violent behaviour when drunk. This might be in a public place, or a domestic argument at home. Sometimes this leads to police involvement and prosecution.

If you know your behaviour can be aggressive or violent when you’ve been using alcohol, you may benefit from regular sessions with a counsellor to discuss both your use of alcohol and your behaviour.

Drunken violent behaviour often occurs when someone is feeling under pressure of some sort and you may benefit from learning how to cope with these feelings, without using alcohol. Contact us.

Arguments

Have you found that you often get into arguments when you’ve been drinking?

Do you find that you tend to drink more when you’ve had an argument and this makes things worse?

Have you sometimes woken up in the morning and worried about whether you have upset or offended someone?

Alcohol reduces our inhibitions and makes us more likely to say things we’ll regret.

Perhaps you’d like to learn ways of avoiding these situations by talking through your circumstances with a trained professional. Contact us.

Police

Been arrested or questioned by the police in connection to alcohol use?

If this has happened to you once, there’s a strong chance it could happen again.

Excessive alcohol use can lead to a number of different offences, including assault, criminal damage and drink driving.

You may need information, advice or counselling to break the link between alcohol and offending behaviour. Contact us.

Are you a young person who has got into trouble?

In Peterborough, we also offer an Intensive Assertive Outreach Service until you’re 19.

Our aim is to support you if you have complex needs where alcohol is an issue. We can offer you non-judgemental support through times of distress, and help you to understand alcohol and its function and influence on your life.

Drinksense offer a variety of other services for young people.

Do you have debts?

Worried about mounting debts or problems with benefit claims?

Not only can heavy drinking cost a lot of money, but alcohol can help people forget about mounting financial problems and lower people’s motivation to do anything about it.

It can become a vicious circle where mounting worries about debts increases your use of alcohol to help you forget – and your problems just mount up.

You may need help breaking out of this situation – see our pages on outreach support services for further information.

Housing and homelessness issues

Arrears, complaints from neighbours and other difficulties which might be linked to alcohol use often put people’s tenancies at risk.

For those who are homeless life is often even harder and for some, heavy drinking offers a brief escape from these pressures and worries.

You may be worried that you are at risk of losing you home, or may need help finding accommodation if you are homeless. Our Outreach Support Services can help you deal with these difficulties click on the link for more information.
