What does Drinksense do?
Drinksense offers information, support, counselling and a wide range of help to people with alcohol-related issues. Some people that attend our service are at the beginning stages of making changes while others are further along. Counselling and Therapeutic services.
Some options might include:
- Alcohol awareness-raising
- Establishing how alcohol has been functioning in your life
- Getting ready to have a “detox” (managing withdrawal symptoms when the body becomes alcohol-free whether this is safely monitored by an alcohol service or by one’s GP)
- Assistance following a “detox”
- Looking at controlled drinking exercises or reducing one’s alcohol intake

- Exploring what might happen if one relapses and what we can learn from it
- Encouragement and support in taking responsibility for one’s own choices and changes.
Drinksense also work with young people; we can offer information, education and preventative work that young people respond well to. For those with more complex needs, we offer an intensive outreach service, working with young people on a one-to-one basis, looking at issues such as tenancy and unplanned pregnancies. This service is currently only available in Peterborough.
We also offer an Adult Outreach Support Service. We can offer help with issues around housing and homelessness, dealing with financial problems and ensuring health needs are met.

Support is available to those who are affected by another’s drinking. This can take the form of counselling and/or information. There is also a specialist service in Peterborough for young people who are affected by their parent’s/carer’s drinking.
Client Confidentiality
Drinksense is a confidential service. Attendance at any of our services is not shared with third parties without your consent. What you say within Drinksense is confidential to us.
We would need to look at broadening this if there was a court subpoena, a child protection issue or if we were concerned about someone harming themselves or someone else.
