Drinksense has two offices in Peterborough; one on Eastfield Road and one on London Road.

79a Eastfield Road
Eastfield Road is the site of the Drinksense General Office.

The Young People and Adult Outreach Services for Peterborough are also based at Eastfield Road.

A walk-in service operates here, offering an opportunity to call in and discuss any concerns you may have about your own, or someone else’s drinking, and other issues or concerns you have around alcohol use. Please see the contacts page for details of when this service is open.

The walk-in service offers access to all of our services in Peterborough, including referral to our London Road Treatment Centre.

169 London Road
The Drinksense Alcohol Service Centre is based at London Road and is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team in partnership with Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Mental Health Partnership Trust. The following services can be accessed here:

  • Counselling and therapy. See our page on therapeutic services for further details.
  • Specialist Community Psychiatric Nursing.

Three specialist staff can support you with health concerns, community detox, or organise a hospital detox for you. A consultant psychiatrist is also available for specialist assessment.

  • Support services for friends/relatives of problem drinkers are also offered at London Road.
  • Our Family Support Worker is based at London Road, providing advice and support for children who live in a family where alcohol is a problem.
  • A social support group meets on a weekly basis offering a relaxed place to meet others, and share stories and experiences. The group is run by two members of our London Road Team and should this be appropriate for you, your key worker will invite you to join the group.

TREATMENT - THERAPEUTIC AND NURSING SERVICES – 169 LONDON ROAD

Making a referral

  • Third party referrals are accepted from GPs, Social Services, CPNs, housing providers and other professionals involved with clients.
  • Referrals can only be accepted with Client consent.
  • Referrals must be received in writing via post or fax (see the Contact page for details of your nearest service.) We are currently unable to accept referrals via e-mail, or to enter into a dialogue on e-mail.
  • Clients can also refer themselves to any of our services, via telephone or attendance at one of our Walk-in sessions (see Contacts page for details)

What happens after a referral?

  • An appointment will be offered to the client for an Initial Assessment Interview. This interview will be with a trained worker.
  • At the weekly team meeting assessments are discussed and suitable treatment options decided.
  • The client is then advised of the decision, be it allocation of a Keyworker in either Nursing or Counselling and Therapeutic Services, referral for detoxification, a meeting with the consultant psychiatrist or referral to our Adult Outreach Servic

More than one of these options may be appropriate, so clients can receive more than one service at the same time. Equally during engagement with the Service the needs of the Client may change and they will be offered treatment options as necessary. All cases are constantly reviewed.

  • We will keep you informed of progress with the client.

YOUNG PEOPLE’S SERVICES

WHAT CAN DRINKSENSE OFFER YOU?

We can deliver formal alcohol awareness and harm minimisation information in a variety of settings, which include schools, youth clubs and other youth settings. In schools Drinksense can offer a fresh perspective to your students, designed to complement your teaching strategy.

Key themes within the education and prevention work include:

  • Alcohol and risk taking behaviour
  • Alcohol, sexual health and teenage pregnancy
  • Alcohol and anti-social behaviour
  • Alcohol awareness, knowledge, attitudes and skill development

We also offer support to those working with young people to identify ways to improve awareness about the risks associated with alcohol misuse.

We can provide individual advice and information for those young people who may have concerns about their own or are affected by someone else's drinking.

The Drinksense Intensive Assertive Outreach Worker works on a one-one basis with young people with complex needs such as tenancy issues and unplanned pregnancy.

We accept referrals by e-mail, fax, letter or telephone.

Training to Trainers (T2T)
This innovative programme provides training for professionals working with young people who could be vulnerable to substance misuse. It enables staff to identify, support and refer young people onto substance misuse advice or other appropriate services.

The training is run in partnership with Bridgegate Drug Services.

Training looks at knowledge, skills and attitudinal exercises covering both drugs an alcohol. T2T also offers ongoing mentoring support, once the initial training has been delivered.

For more information about T2T and to find out what the charge for the service is, please see our contact page and Young People's Section.
